Friends, AMERICANS, countrymen, lend me your ears... !
Or, a Eulogy for The United States of America; Moribund circa 2002-2024
Prolegomena: While shopping around for “The Annals of America”, I found out that ‘Volume 22: 1987-2001’ is called “A New World Order”…
… yes, Dear Reader(s), it also has 666 pages (!!!!), among other things & several other peculiar quirks, such as basically being expunged from even the most well-known used bookstores worldwide… you can’t find a hard copy of the thing anywhere!
(Trust me, I tried! It’s as if somebody deleted it entirely in some official manner…)
Anyhow… as I was pondering about the peculiarity of the whole thing, I asked myself:
“If there ever were a Volume 23 published… one that spoke about the sorts of Times Americans live in today, what would be the header for such a Volume?”
…I thought a bit about it & couldn’t quite put it together.
…Until I recalled the most famous Eulogy in the English Language:
Namely; Mark Anthony’s “Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears…!”
Upon closer inspection & tinkering… it sounded exceptionally intimate, relevant & foreboding of the period Americans increasingly find themselves in.
As such, I decided to put it up on my Stack courtesy of the 1) Sheer DOOM in the finished product & 2) The strikingly relevant Tone of the delivery for 2024 (& beyond).
Enjoy Dear Reader(s)! It is nothing more than a “Remix” by myself, your most humble DOOM-merchant… but may it exponentially multiply the Utter Despair, Gloom & DOOM you feel in the coming Year of 2024!
Friends, AMERICANS, countrymen, lend me your ears...!
Friends, Americans, countrymen, lend me your ears; I come to bury These United States, not to praise him. The evil that Nations do live after them; The good is oft interred with their bones; So let it be with America. The noble Russia & China Hath told you America was ambitious: If it were so, it was a grievous fault, And grievously hath America answer’d it. Here, under leave of Russia and China– For the Eurasians are honourable men; So are they all, all honourable men– Come I to speak in America’s funeral. He was my friend, faithful and just to me: But Russia & China say he was ambitious; And the Eurasians are honourable men. He hath brought many home: The tired, the poor, the huddled masses yearning to breathe free; Whose ransoms did the general coffers fill. Did this in America seem ambitious? When that the poor have cried, America hath wept: Ambition should be made of sterner stuff: Yet Russia & China say he was ambitious; And the Eurasians are honourable men. You all did see that at the United Nations many years ago, He was presented with a kingly crown by the nations of the world, Which he did on numerous occasions refuse: was this ambition? Yet Russia & China say he was ambitious; And, sure, the Eurasians are honourable men. I speak not to disprove what Russia & China spoke, But here I am to speak what I do know. You all did love America once, not without cause: What cause withholds you then, to mourn for America? O judgment! thou art fled to brutish beasts, And nations have lost their reason. Bear with me; My heart is in the coffin there with These United States, And I must pause till it come back to me.

It's the very rapid fall of the US that is so stunning. Maybe it's the buying-off of politicians? Napoleon (apparently) said 'I knew men could be bought but what surprised me was how cheaply'. Vigorous efforts should be made to find out which US politicians have received 'gifts' from China, and then hang them as traitors. Don't mess about.
